Out of Africa (Memorias de Africa). The project is about Identity and Cultural Diversity as a Competitive Advantage for Tourism. In addition it works towards promoting education in values and gender equality.
The project has developed as part of a PhD research project in Ibarra, Ecuador by María Patricia Morales Megías. The principle focus is a study of the African communities in the province of Imbabura to trace what myths, legends, songs, recipes, celebrations, dances and traditions they have preserved over the years due to their relative isolation and emphasis on oral traditions. The project fits into the Ecuadorian national plan for tourism, 'PLANDETUR 2020' designed to highlight and preserve the ethnic diversity of Ecuador, which is largely an 'unknown' for the outside world.
